This shedding self defense technique is a very simple block that can serve you well if your attacker manages to fire one off before you get a chance to strike first.
Shedding is different than parrying techniques in it’s simplicity. While parrying can take months to master shedding can be learned in a day or two.
The secret to this self defense technique is taking the offensive right after his punch. Blocking won’t win a fight and you don’t want to be on the defensive any longer than you have to.
To do this you want to move into your attacker as you throw your arm up to shed the punch. By moving forward you are able to “take the weight off the punch.” This simply means that by moving in you prevent your attacker from completing his weight shift or even block the arm before it is fully extended.
Once you are in close you must go to work quickly using your knees, elbows, and whatever other self defense tools you have at your disposal. There is no perfect follow up sequence. The best thing to to is to act quickly and attack high value targets. You need to fire off strikes quickly so that your opponent doesn’t have time to figure out what is going on.
The outside shedding technique shown at the end of the video is a bit more difficult to execute. Luckily most guys you may come up against on the street will be leading off with a right haymaker not a straight punch. You must be aware however that the inside shedding technique will not work for a straight punch.
The only real way to learn to predict what punch is coming to do some full speed training with proper protective gear where you don’t know what your partner is going to do.

Krav is simply theft. They’ve stolen numerous bodies of technique from other far better arts (in this case kali), failed to credit them, and called them their own.
Krav is a marketing gimmick.

I am 59 YO, with no fight training, I really dislike violence, so when engaged, I want to end it as fast and yes with as much violence as possibul.
This “shed” is fantastic for self defence, and it opens the attacker to some other simple, effective strikes that ends the crap real fast.
Thank you, all of you that have spent the time,$, and energy to teach the rest of us how to defend our selves.

I’m 70 years old, no physical fight training except basic military 50 years ago, and have come to that point in my life where there’s just too much crap going on in the streets around me. These techniques may be old to some of you and are probably older than I am, but, I think they need revisited more often, like any training as one gets a little rustier in moves. The techniques are ‘new’ to those who have no training. The internet has opened a whole new world to everyone, regardless of your interests. I welcome the videos and notes these past months, as they complement my CCW training, a great equalizer at my age! Many thanks to Fight Fast and crew.

krav maga is the best fighting system on the planet and the entire idea behind it is that it uses techniques from other arts. it helps israel win all conflicts it is in and never fails them.

Excellent information how to stop the haymaker! I would have also liked to have seen it demonstrated in real time to see how the procedure is applied in a split second for the sake of perspective. Nevertheless, I believe that whether one can effect the techniques presented as an expert or not, the important thing is that the aggressor may rethink his/her position that the person confronted is not a patsy, and thus, may stop for self-preservation giving me the time to flee preferably or return aggression.
To the commentator of August 2012 who asserted that this technique from the Israeli Krav Magra is stolen techniques from other martial arts–who cares! Nobody requires a footnoting of how fighting techniques originate or have been incorporated into other fighting systems. What matters is to protect myself regardless of who created the techniques. All of these fighting measures were initially witnessed by someone who improved upon the technique or employed it into a fighting system.
If I protect myself, I shall be glad to leave a footnote and a bibliography upon the perpetrator so that the purists can sleep at nights!

Good tool to add to any style of Martial Arts.
The little humour of combing his hair is a nice touch too.
Thanks and look forward to more.

Nice move. Whenever I’m leaving work walking about a block to may car, which is usually later in the evening, I’ll act like I’m scratching my head while walking towards someone. That way, my arm (the block) is already in position.
