Stunningly Simple Japanese Neck Throw

A Simple Defense

The “rag doll” grab is a very common fight move used by attackers who have blown their top. It’s often a way for them to “amp” themselves up to more damaging moves like punches and elbow strikes. You don’t want to let that happen. That’s why I’m sharing this video clip with you. Lucky for you, the “rag doll” grab, where an attacker takes hold of you by your clothing and jerks you around, is a pretty easy one to defend against.

How To Pick Locks. (Who Needs Keys?)

You may find this shocking, but picking open a standard "tumbler" lock, (like the one on your front door), is pretty damn easy when you know how it's done.

And in a "meltdown" survival situation, (once the smash-n-grab crowd has stolen everything not tied-down), the food and water and secure shelter will all be behind locked doors, (which explains why Special Forces are often trained in lock picking... and why they carry a set of lock pics with them).

It's a lot of fun learning this skill, (it doesn't take long)... and kinda nice to help out that buddy locked out of his house after the wife discovered what really happened on that "no money down" real estate seminar in Vegas.

Breaking It Down

First off, both of the attackers hands are occupied gripping your clothing. This means you’ll have both hands free to take him out. Second, he’s probably so preoccupied with his emotions he won’t be ready for what’s about to happen to him.

Step 1: Open With A Distraction Technique

  • As with many good self-defense strategies, it’s best to start off with a painful and quick distraction technique.
  • In this case we’re opening with an eye gouge, which will cause his focus to go to the pain and fear this move temporarily creates.
  • While he’s focusing on how much pain he’s in, you want to prepare to hit him with a kick to the inner leg.
  • The goal here is obviously to take out his base.

Once you’ve inflicted a hefty amount of pain and have taken out his base, you are ready to move on to the next step of this technique.

Step 2: Daze and Confuse Your Opponent

  • Next, you’ll want to go back up top with a brutal self defense ear slap.
  • Together these fight moves should have him dazed and confused, which is exactly how you want him for this devastating neck throw.
  • Note that while the neck throw may look difficult, it relies on leverage, not brute force. This makes it much simpler in practice.

This technique also works on bigger attackers. Billy’s assistant in this clip is a good 4 to 6 inches taller than he is, and the self defense throw still works great.

Step 3: Follow Up

  • Follow up the ear slap by putting him into a head lock.
  • At the same time, you need to squat down, lowering your center of gravity.
  • At this point your arm should be hooked around the back of his head while you grab his outside arm with your free hand.

At his point your opponent is in a lot of pain and should be too dazed and confused to properly defend themselves. This is exactly where you want them.

Before moving on to the final step, keep in mind that this technique doesn’t rely on brute force, but on leverage. This means that it is effective, even against bigger, stronger attackers.

Step 4: Throw Your Opponent

  • Be sure that your feet are not too wide apart (they should be on the inside of his legs).
  • While you squat down you need to tighten your arm around his head, bringing him further over your shoulder.
  • To complete the throw, you simply stand back up while continuing to pull him over your shoulder.
  • Standing up will take him off his feet and his body will “tip” over your shoulder, slamming him on his back.

Once the attacker is on his back you can escape or follow up with whatever other self-defense moves are necessary to quickly end the fight.

  10. Thank u for the info I’m currently on disability, but looking forward to purchasing all of all of ur very important self defence techniques.

  11. I can not thank you enough for your lessons. I have had to use these on multiple occasions and can say with out a doubt they work! I am in the process of teaching my female co-workers how to defend themselves in case of an attack .

  12. This is a really great technique thank you for sharing and I’m all for anything that stop someone from trying to throw me around like a ragdoll or shake me like a rag doll so I hope I never get put in that position and I don’t know how to get out of it now thank you for the great video

  13. Hello Bob, GREAT MOVE, would NOT like to be on the receiving end though, another thank you due for another good move.

  14. Great simple technique not too difficult to learn or at least that’s the way it looks straightforward and you get the hell out of Dodge

  15. Hey Bob, thanks for all the great videos and gear you send our way. Just wish I could have my surgery, so I can go back to work so I can be able to afford some of the great things you’ve sent my way. Great ideas to teach people to defend themselves especially in this crazy World today.

  16. Like this move, but wouldn’t fancy trying to throw someone who is a lot heavier than me as his weight could be too much and I find myself falling on my face with him on top of me. However would definitely use the preceeding moves. Thanks Billy.

  17. Looks like they’re good techniques I work security at night sometimes I work by myself out in the middle of nowhere

  18. I ran into a situation similar to this I was out weighed by 40 lbs and gave about 6 ins in height. At the time I was 5 7 and 170. We were leaving a bar when it happened. The only thing I did not do was throw him. Once he grabbed me I went for his eye but got him squarely on the nose. He let go. I kicked at the knee area on the inside. Then I slapped him on the side of the head with a ear slap. I went to grab him in a headlock but I was surprised that he was laying on the floor holding his ear and saying he had enough and was sorry. I almost felt bad for him. But by using these moves to help you defend yourself you may not have to use all the steps shown to defeat an attacker.

  19. Thanks this works really great and I’ve learned a lot from fight fast and I am a trained disabled soldier so a lot of these attacks I can use with my disability. My right arm has very little strength so I dont feel as confident as I normally would so I enjoy learning new techniques…Thanks a million…Awesome

  20. Fast and effective self defense , which is good for me as I have COPD ( breathing issues ) and not a lot stamina , am I able too run even if I wanted to .
Only thing left is to defend myself and disable my attacker as quickly as possible . Then catch my breath and walk away .

  21. Thank you Jimbo, Bob, and the Crew,
I appreciate everything you offer, all of the time. Your videos, and awesome equipment, help prepare you for just about any attacker, and/or disaster(s) of just about any kind. Please keep up the good work of helping the every day Joe like me, to not only feel safer, but actually BE safer, out on the crazy streets of these days. Looking forward to see what else you are going to provide us “numb-nuts” to help us be ready for anything:))
    Thank You!!

  22. You make it look so easy!! Can’t wait to try some of these moves. I’m showing my granddaughter several of these moves to protect herself. She’s 16 and it’s really dangerous out there. So I’m watching closely , also I want to thank all of you ,for caring enough and taking the time for us. Wanda M

  23. Very informative tactics for a capable body, but unfortunately, I am confined to a wheelchair. I can improvise some of the moves but could be detrimental in the long run. This why I carry the spring assisted combat knife in case all else fails.

  24. Thank you. I will add this to my list of life skills. My only question would be being impeded by the aggressors arms. Would it not be prudent to hold the arms and kick the aggressor in the testicles? Of course in real life combat situations things can get muddled. However it’s good to have some kind of plan for defensive action.Whatever it is, it better work the first time. One may not get a second chance.

  25. Nicely Done, my friend, and I would like to also Thank You ! For taking the time to send me a reminder that the Tools of Self Defense are The Tools that could possibly save your Life and possibly the Lives of those around you. I, too am a Veteran and at the approaching age of 64 I have had to learn a hard cold fact, that even though I myself realize that I’m not always going to be that young tough guy that I used to be. All in all, while always keeping in mind that Key Elements of Destraction, Daze and Confuse Tactics, and Surprise, can hopefully get you and yours back home unscathed and safe. Hey ! And possibly cause an attacker to turn over a new leaf on LIFE. Thanks Again
