Punishing Stiff Arm Elbow Shot

For When You’re Caught Off Guard

This technique is great for situations where an attacker has the jump on you. The stiff arm portion of the technique stops the attackers momentum and provides protection for your jaw line. The elbow shot allows you to get inside and deliver devastating close range strikes to gain the offensive and end the fight quickly.

The Stiff Arm

There are a couple of things you need to keep in mind in order to properly pull off the stiff arm:

  • When you use the stiff arm you need to make sure you have a stable stance and are on your toes with your knees slightly bent so you can absorb the impact.
  • If you try to use the stiff arm while you are on your heels, you’ll be pushed over or thrown off balance.

This stance will also enable you to spring back on the attacker to throw him off balance as Jim explains in the video. Once you’ve landed the stiff arm, you’re ready to move on to the elbow shot.

The Elbow Shot

For the elbow shot portion of the technique remember to keep your free hand up to protect your head and use your hips and torso to develop power in the elbow strike. The power comes from your core not your arm.

If you manage to deliver two powerful elbow shots to the attackers jaw and face it will without a doubt stun him and it’s very likely that it’ll end the fight. If you follow up with the horizontal hammer fist and the opposite arm elbow strike it’ll be a done deal.

Remember- don’t stop striking until the threat is gone and leave the area quickly to avoid retaliation from the attacker’s friends.

  1. This was a very informative video thank you. I have a black belt in kajukenbo karate and they still didn’t show you this move. Thanks

  2. Very smooth move and you can protect yourself also. I like the natural motion to the elbow strike.

  3. Sometimes I think of these strikes that use a backfist motion, that’s not used I would say much in orthodox boxing. They are a real style of punch you just don’t see too often. Good combo.

  4. I have ordered six to seven knives and given them as gifts to my family and friend’s. They all love the knives and are very excited about carrying them for safety reasons. They all said the knives are the very best products that they have held in their hands. They all love them and plan to join the fight Fast family. I am so happy I have found Fight Fast and plan to order other products in the future.

  5. Good stuff to work with! I like head protection/the arms all engaged and can throw in some low kicks to boot..thank you.

  6. Very impressed …….. with the straight arm and elbows. I am 68 years young and a former brawler with significant boxing skills and some MMA training…….yet wanting to put together, a series of moves with strikes, kicks, head butts and trips…..which place an opponent off balance and with quick crushing decisiveness. They on the ground, me standing, within 2 minutes or less and an end to the fight. More specifically, I want a response which will undo, the most common of approaches by an adversary. The Mrs and I have been approached in the recent past on two occasions…..by gang members and fear for our safety. Looking for guidance here……… I have a heavy strike bag.

  7. Looks like a great move! Thanks for sharing this. My problem is that I am getting old and stiff. I hope I can react that quickly.
